Sarfalik means “a current spot” in Greenlandic — and there are many of them in Greenland. With tidal differences of up to 4–5 meters and a coastline filled with fjords and archipelagos, ideal conditions for current spots are created along the entire coast. If you look at a map of Greenland, you’ll notice that many places bear the name Sarfalik. These spots are often located near old settlements, villages, or other signs of human activity, as the current spots have served as natural pantries. The hunting opportunities and wildlife change with the seasons, making these places particularly valuable.
