I`ve been fortunate to witness many wondrous places in my life, but something about Greenland has touched me to the core unlike any other. From its haunting beauty and pristine purity, to its deafening silence and harsh reality, it is a land that completely captivates the mind, yet renders the mouth incapable of forming adequate words. There are other hues than mere white, when the days are gilded by sunlight, or emerald nights from Aurora`s celestial dance. Its native people bear hospitable hearts and a collective resilience that warms the spirit in the most chilling of conditions. Its dark waters conceal fantastical aquatic beasts, its skies filled with majestic birds of prey. If lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of Nanook roaming its icy shores. There is indeed Life here at the veritable edge of the earth.
This idyllic primordial land will soon face many challenges in light of independence movements, geopolitical debacles, neo-colonial threats, and climate changes. It pains me to think of what misfortune could befall this magical place, should it end up in any hands that are not explicitly Greenlandic. I can only sit back and hope for the best. May its indigenous keepers protect it for posterity. May Greenland – Kalaallit Nunaat – always remain free. 🇬🇱
